Tennessee U.S. Reps. Vote to Condemn Vice President Kamala Harris’ Failed Duty as Border Czar

All eight Republican members of Tennessee’s congressional delegation serving in the U.S. House of Representatives voted on Thursday to condemn the failure of the Biden administration and “border czar” Vice President Kamala Harris to secure the United States border.

The resolution, H.Res.1371, passed the House by a 220-196 vote. Six Democrats joined the majority vote.

The text of the resolution, in part, reads as follows:

[Be] it Resolved, That the House of Representatives—

(1) strongly condemns the Biden Administration and its Border Czar, Kamala Harris’s, failure to secure the United States border;

(2) affirms that the American people deserve elected officials who understand the gravity of the crisis at the border and who will execute the policies to fix the border crisis; and

(3) clearly and firmly states that the continuation of the Biden, Harris border policies would be disastrous for both the United States and the American people.

House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) filed the resolution.

Tennessee U.S. Representatives Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01), Tim Burchett (R-TN-02), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN-03), Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04), Andy Ogles (R-TN-05), John Rose (R-TN-06), Mark Green (R-TN-07), and David Kustoff (R-TN-08) all voted with the majority to pass the resolution.

Democratic Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN-09) voted against the resolution.

Green, who chairs the House Homeland Committee, released a statement following the House’s passage of the resolution, saying, “Vice President Kamala Harris is not just a failed border czar—she is an extremist on border security and immigration enforcement, as her record as a senator, presidential candidate, and vice president makes abundantly clear.”

“While Democrats and their allies in the media rush to excuse Vice President Harris’ catastrophic failure to end the crisis she and President Biden created, Congress has shown with this resolution that we want the American people to know the truth,” Green added.

Fleischmann also commented on Thursday’s vote on the resolution, writing in an X post, “Americans know that Vice President Kamala Harris is Biden’s Border Czar and purposely created the worst border crisis in our history.

“That’s why even Democrats joined [House Republicans] to condemn Harris’ failed open border policies that are harming Americans,” Fleischmann added.

Burchett, in a video posted to X following the vote on the resolution, warned of the continued border disaster in the case Republicans fall short of taking over the Senate majority, maintaining its majority in the House, and returning former President Donald Trump to the Oval Office as a result of the November elections.

“If we do not take control completely of the House, the Senate, and the White House, we are going to be in some serious trouble,” Burchett said in the video posted to X.
